I uploaded this picture of an Appalachian variety of lactuca virosa with dripping sap a couple years ago. Since then it’s been copied hundreds of times, of course without my permission. The true story of this photo is that I, Christian Lactucaman, took this photo in the Appalachian mountains.

I took it on a family trip up into the hills of Virginia. We went to the Stony Man Overlook on the Appalachian Trail. In the parking of the overlook there are several outcroppings where you can find this interesting variety.
